Who we are?
We are 3 generations of rug dealers with more than 90 years experience in this field. Since late 1980s, we have been dealing with antique rugs only. Our collection includes: carpets, kilims, textiles, tapestries, masks and other collectibles. All original, antique and handmade.
We don’t deal with modern, contemporary art and machine made rugs.
My grandfather was born in Caucasus (Azerbaijan, USSR at the time) and he moved down to Tabriz, Iran, when he was young. My father started to work with my grandfather when he was a teenager and over the years he teached me the basic principles of this this job, this art. After years of rug hunting in Turkey, Caucasus and the most remote villages and tribes of Iran, in 1987 I refounded the family company giving it a new business model focusing only on antique rugs. For sure my city of birth helped me a lot, in fact Tabriz was a sort of carpet capital of the world. Tabriz has been a place of cultural exchange since antiquity and its historic bazaar complex is one of the most important commercial centres on the Silk Road.
I moved here in Rome in 2000, and in 2003 I opened my gallery in Via del Gesù 90, in downtown Rome. Few minutes by foot from the greatest Roman historical masterpieces: Pantheon, Colosseum, Piazza Venezia and Fontana di Trevi. Day after day we have become one the leading antique rug galleries in the world. Among our clients are international collectors, museums, big companies and hotels.
Now, The Farmand Gallery collection of antique rugs, textiles and collectibles is one the largest and rarest in the world and includes pieces from Persia, Caucasus, Anatolia, Central Asia, India, China, Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia, Japan, Scandinavian countries, United Kingdom, Balkans, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, North Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt), Congo, Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia and United States.
You can find us in the most important rug and furnishing magazines as Hali, Ghereh and AD.
